Working from the seat of a bicycle isn’t for every agency, but … we’re not the typical flacks! When the Arthritis Foundation needed communications support for its California Coast Classic Bicycle Tour – a 525-mile bucket list ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles that raises over $1 million each year – our very own Julie Kelly packed her laptop, helmet, and cycling shoes. A former Cat 2 road racer with decades of PR and journalism experience, Julie embedded with the tour for eight days to write and design daily newsletters, shoot photo and video from her bike, manage onsite and on-the-fly media relations, serve as an on-camera spokesperson, and work seamlessly with the event director and senior management on strategy and activation from start to finish.
Our work contributed to helping the Foundation meet its $1-million fundraising goal even considering COVID-era challenges, recruit new riders, stay engaged with supporters, earn new donations, publicize the event, and help grow it for 2022 and beyond.
